Home & Access
Smart-lock security.
Door keypads, smart locks and garage codes protect your home — but only if the code is a good one.
Choose the code well
- Use a random 4‑ to 6‑digit code, not a house number, year, or a line down the keypad (2580).
- Worn or discoloured keys give away which digits you use — pick codes that spread across the pad, and clean the keypad occasionally.
- Give guests and tradespeople a temporary code, and delete it when they're done.
Set up the lock
- Change the default/installer code the day it's fitted.
- Keep the lock's firmware updated, and put smart locks on a separate guest Wi‑Fi network.
- Enable entry alerts so you know when the door is opened and by which code.
Keep a backup
Battery‑powered locks fail flat at the worst moment — keep a physical key or a backup entry method, and store it somewhere that isn't next to the door.
